Claude Team Plan: What It Costs, What to Set Up, and When a Small Company Needs Enterprise
Two to 150 seats, two kinds of seat, and an admin console most teams never open. Here is how to size it for a company of 5 to 50 people, the five settings worth changing on day one, and the gaps that push a company to Enterprise.

The Claude Team plan is Anthropic's plan for groups of 2 to 150 people. In the US a standard seat is $20 a month billed annually ($25 monthly), and a premium seat with five times the usage is $100 ($125 monthly). Every seat includes Claude Code and Cowork, and the plan adds central billing, SSO, spend caps, and admin control over which connectors people can use. For a company of 5 to 50, the usual setup is standard seats for everyone and premium seats for the two or three people who hit limits. You need Enterprise when you need audit logs, SCIM, custom data retention or a HIPAA-ready setup, not before.
Team plan pricing
From Anthropic's pricing page and help center, US prices before tax:
| Seat | Billed annually | Billed monthly | Usage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $20 per member per month | $25 | More than Pro (1.25x per session) |
| Premium | $100 per member per month | $125 | 5x a standard seat |
- Seats: minimum 2, maximum 150. Mix both types, and add seats mid-term.
- Limits are per person, not pooled. They reset on a rolling five-hour window, with weekly limits on top. Admins can turn on usage credits so someone who hits the limit keeps working.
- API credits: the plan includes pooled API credits, up to $500 a month according to the pricing page.
- Payment: credit card only, monthly or annual. No invoicing or ACH on Team.
- Prices vary by region. Check claude.ai/upgrade for yours.
What it costs for a team of 10
Eight standard seats and two premium seats:
- Billed annually: 8 × $20 + 2 × $100 = $360 a month, $4,320 a year.
- Billed monthly: 8 × $25 + 2 × $125 = $450 a month.
Start everyone on standard and upgrade the people who hit limits. In most small companies that's whoever writes code with Claude Code or runs long documents through Cowork all day. Everyone else rarely notices a limit. If you are weighing Claude Code against an open-weight alternative your data never has to leave for, see Mistral Large 4 in Vibe vs Claude Code.
What's included
From the pricing page and help center, a Team seat includes everything in Pro, plus:
- Claude Code and Claude Cowork, Projects, and the Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook add-ins. See Claude for Excel.
- Connectors to Google Drive, Gmail, Calendar, GitHub, Microsoft 365 and Slack, enterprise search across them, and custom connectors.
- Admin: central billing, SSO, domain verification, usage analytics, org-wide instructions and Skills, and spend caps for the organization and for each member.
- Admin control over connectors, remote and local. This is the setting that decides what Claude can reach.
- Training: the pricing page lists model training as "None by default."
One inconsistency to check before you rely on it: Anthropic's help center lists domain capture and role-based permissions under Team, while the pricing page marks both as Enterprise-only. Ask Anthropic which applies to your account.
Five settings to change on day one
Most teams buy the seats, send the invites and never open the admin console. These are worth ten minutes:
- Turn on SSO with your Google or Microsoft accounts, so leaving the company removes Claude access with everything else.
- Set spend caps for the organization and per member before you turn on usage credits.
- Decide which connectors are allowed. Start with read access to the tools people already use. Add anything that can write, send or delete one at a time.
- Write the org instructions. Company name, what you sell, tone, the currencies and date formats you use. Every answer gets better.
- Name an owner. Someone checks usage analytics once a month, moves people between standard and premium, and removes seats nobody uses.
Team or Enterprise?
According to the pricing page, Enterprise adds what a regulated or larger company needs:
- SCIM to create and remove users automatically from your directory.
- Audit logs and the Compliance API.
- Custom data retention.
- Network-level access control and IP allowlisting.
- A HIPAA-ready offering.
Enterprise needs at least 20 seats at $20 a seat billed annually, and bills usage at API rates on top of the seat price, so a heavy month costs more. It also offers invoicing and net terms through sales.
Stay on Team if you are under about 50 people, your clients don't ask for audit logs, and you don't handle health data. Move to Enterprise when a client's security questionnaire asks who accessed what and when, when you need automatic provisioning from your directory, or when you need retention shorter than the default. We wrote about the questionnaires that usually trigger this.
Connecting the Team plan to your own systems
Out of the box, Claude on a Team plan sees email, documents, calendars and the SaaS tools on Anthropic's list. Most small companies also run one system that isn't on it: an ERP, an order system, an industry tool, an internal app.
A custom connector closes that gap. Technically it's an MCP server in front of your system. The admin enables it once for the organization, each person signs in with their own account, and Claude acts with that person's permissions, not with a shared admin key. That's how our own CRM works with Claude: more than 160 tools, each call running as the signed-in user through MCP OAuth.
If you want to try one first: how to add a custom connector in Claude.
Before you buy
- Count who will use it daily, not who might. Unused seats are the most common waste.
- Pick annual billing once you know the headcount. It saves $5 a standard seat and $25 a premium seat each month.
- Check where your data goes. Training is off by default on Team; here is how the main assistants compare.
- List the one system Claude can't see yet. That's usually where the hours are.
Our published prices for connecting Claude to your own system: a half-day scoping workshop is about $2,300 to $4,700, credited against the work, and a first workflow in production costs $5,000 to $18,000. Details here.
